A healthy mind in a healthy body...

Sydney dentist Dr Alex Dietz is offering patients quality preventative care at his Mosman dental practice. The importance of regular checkups is highlighted and oral hygiene instructions - complemented by dietary advice - are updated at each visit.

Don't we all try to achieve – and hold on to good health, for as long as possible? Our teeth are very much part of this equation. People live longer today, the only set of teeth we have needs to be of service 10 to 15 years longer, than a few decades ago.

Since science achieved a great deal in letting us know what is good or bad for us regarding our lifestyle, there are certainly a few adjustments and changes one can consider in order to improve the prospect of a healthier life and longer lasting teeth.

The bottom line is that it seems to come to what we eat and how fit we are – how true! Establishing and holding on to a routine which will help to take care of both seems to be worth every effort.

With a view to what is happening to our teeth over time, here are some musings:
- drinking tap water, it's free and contains fluoride. People pay more for bottled water than for petrol
- soft drinks are the main culprit, affecting young people in particular (sugar & acid concoctions)
- the less food that is processed, the better...natural foods like nuts and honey, for instance, will benefit you
- have your orange juice (citric acid) or chocolate (sugar) and then a quick brushing within 20 minutes will remove sugar and acid and the enamel of your teeth and your gums will be happy.
